Public lecture at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University
We met the rector of the Tbilisi State University, Prof. Vladimer Papava, and discussed with him all possible options for cooperation between Georgian and the Austrian universities. He mentioned that it would be possible to extend scientific support to the Austrian Institute for Caucasus Studies, i. e. to help to elaborate a curriculum for Caucasian Studies in Austria.
a. How to create opportunities for Georgian Students for study at Austrian Technical Colleges/ College and advanced training courses?

First Professor Heinrich explained opportunities for Georgian Students to be admitted to High Technical Institutes or Universities, exchange and cooperation programs.
There is a need of well-trained technical specialists in a modern economy. This is an enormously important factor for economy and business. For Georgia´s modernization bid, the upgrading of technical education in Georgia is a top priority, which can be facilitated by providing openings for Georgian students at High Technical Institutes in Austria. He also discussed sponsoring possibilities for Georgian students.
b. Prospects of the Austrian educational model for Georgia. Implementation experience of Austrian higher technical Institutes in Georgia’s higher education system.

The Austrian expert Prof. Alfred Pleyer (head of department in Camillo Sitte High Technical Institute) gave a presentation about the educational system of High Technical institutes in Austria and the possibilities for the transfer of Austrian experiences and knowledge to Georgian High Technical Institutes. He showed a plan of the facility of Camillo Sitte High Technical Institute and gave an overview about the Austrian school system in general. Furthermore he explained the advantages of the Austrian education system for young people making their carrier. He talked about «green energy», too.
The Georgian students, journalists and some businessmen, were very interested and asked some details about the educational possibilities in Austria. This discussion was covered by a journalist of a popular Russian language newspaper (one of the largest in the Caucasus countries) in Georgia, who wrote an article about the topic1.
An Austrian businessman who participated in the meeting addressed the problem of the certification of machines and other tools in Georgia. Georgia still lacks functional institutions charged with testing and certifying technical appliances according to EU norms and standards.
The discussion at large was very instructive and will facilitate further exchanges between Austrian and Georgian experts in this field.
